Passing of Stan Bakulich
The Labour Party family in Mangere have lost a loving patriarch in Stanley Ivan Bakulich who passed away on Tuesday surrounded by his family, says the MP for Mangere Su’a William Sio.
“Stan had a strong sense of loyalty to social justice values that he passed onto his family that won’t be easily forgotten.
“Stan is the father of Nick Bakulich a member of the Otahuhu-Mangere Local Board and was a staunch supporter of our efforts to improve the quality of living in our community.
“I want to convey to the Bakulich clan and extended families our sincere sympathies and condolences for your loss.
“I’ve always been aware of Stan’s quiet presence and backroom support of Nick, our Local Board and our efforts in the community and I have been a proud recipient of his family’s loyal solidarity.
“Stan had a strong sense of social justice which is not a surprise given his father was a President of the Dairy Workers Union and he himself was a delegate of the former Hotel, Hospital, Restaurant Workers’ Union when he worked at the Auckland Hospital for many years.
“Stan was born in Whangarei of Croatian ancestry, but while working at Auckland Hospital he met and married a young proud Samoan nurse trainee by the name of Malua from the villages of Vaovai & Fagatuli.
“They have been residents of Mangere for many years and have 4 children – Nick, Andrea, Fiona and Masele.
