More students achieving in Hutt South

Chris Bishop, National List MP based in Hutt South, has welcomed the release of data showing that more students in in Hutt South are achieving NCEA Level 2 or equivalent.

The number of Hutt South 18-year-olds who achieved NCEA level 2 or equivalent in 2015 was up 2.7 percentage points to 86.8 percent, ahead of the government’s national goal of 85 percent.

“NCEA Level 2 gives people the skills required for further education and to progress in working life, so it’s excellent to see more young Hutt students gaining this qualification”, says Mr Bishop.

“I’m also really pleased to see the number of Hutt Maori 18-year-olds with NCEA Level 2 up 5.1 percentage points to 78.8 percent. Achievement by European and Asian students was also up, while Pasifika achievement fell in the last year.

“Principals, teachers, students and school communities are working hard here in the Hutt and the results speak for themselves.”

“Across New Zealand, 83.3 percent of 18-year-olds achieved NCEA Level 2 across New Zealand – that’s about 38,000 more kids than in 2008 achieving a qualification which will help prepare them for further study or work.

Early childhood education participation rates in Hutt South are at 98.8 percent, above the national goal of 98 percent.
