UnitedFuture applauds child-centred policy
UnitedFuture leader, Peter Dunne, has applauded the passing of the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families
(Advocacy, Workforce, and Age Settings Amendment Bill) through First Reading.
"This Bill makes the statement that children must be at the heart of policy making," said Mr Dunne.
"This Bill is important because it establishes a framework for the care of vulnerable children, something that is vital
for us to give them the best opportunities in life,
"Provisions in this Bill, such as the proposed s11, that work towards embedding the views of particular children in the
policy responses we make to support them enable a more flexible and responsive level of support," said Mr Dunne.
The principle of placing children at the heart of policy-making has long be advocated for by UnitedFuture.
"It's the same principle that led to our achievements in establishing the Families Commission and our current support of
paid-parental leave," said Mr Dunne
"I welcome the National party to the table on this, it is heartening to see it being taken seriously and implemented in
a way that will make a difference."
