Budget 2016: Conservation Not a Priority
Staff cuts, shut tracks and derelict DOC huts are the face of our conservation estate under the National government,” says Clayton Mitchell Conservation Spokesperson.
“The conservation of our internationally renowned landscape should be a major priority for this government – but their answer is to get DOC staff to do more for less. They are doing little for DOC yet it looks after a major part of our tourism industry.
“Nothing has changed from last year’s Budget which had just $11 million for the Save Our Kiwi campaign which was largely just a transfer from another wildlife fund.
“When will this government put value before cost?”
