Minister Needs to Front up on Roast Busters II – NZ First

The Minister of Police needs to tell the public whether the infamous Roast Busters II investigation was one of the 90 per cent of cases handed back to the police to investigate themselves, says New Zealand First.

“Has Ms Collins requested and read the Independent Police Conduct Authority report that led to the public statement that ‘the investigation was conducted in an exemplary manner’ and which has never been made available to the general public?” New Zealand First Spokesperson for Women Tracey Martin asks.

“If she hasn’t requested and read the report, why hasn’t she?

“Justice has to be seen to be done and in the Roast Busters II case there are many doubts that require clarification.

“Also, has the minister received any legislative change recommendations from the Police Commissioner from the Roast Busters II case so that perpetrators in any future cases cannot get off scot free?

“Unfortunately the Roast Busters II case is one the government would rather shove under the carpet, but it requires closer consideration and more information from the minister.

“This is especially important now that we learn the cash-strapped Independent Police Conduct Authority does not have enough money to do its job and has to refer nearly all of the cases back to the police themselves to investigate which is totally unacceptable,” says Mrs Martin.
