UnitedFuture Welcomes MMP Success with Proposed New Recreational Fishing Parks
UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne has welcomed the Government's proposals to establish new recreational fishing parks in the Marlborough Sounds and the Hauraki Gulf.
The proposals are contained in a Government discussion paper released today.
Mr Dunne says UnitedFuture campaigned for the introduction of dedicated recreational fishing reserves at the last election, and that its Confidence and Supply Agreement with National acknowledges that both parties would work together to introduce such a policy.
"Recreational fishers will welcome the opportunities provided by these new marine parks, and I am very pleased to see such significant areas as the Marlborough Sounds and the Hauraki Gulf proposed for the first of what I hope will be a number of similar parks around the country," Mr Dunne says.
Mr Dunne says today's announcement is another example of progress for the outdoor recreation sector, which shows the value of a support partner working constructively with the lead party of Government to achieve a positive outcome.
