Canterbury Property Boundaries and Related Matters Bill: Giving clarity to property owners
Changes to legislation regarding legal property boundaries affected by the 2010 and 2011 Canterbury earthquakes are being considered by the Local Government and Environment Committee. The public are invited to have their say on the changes.
The Canterbury Property Boundaries and Related Matters Bill looks to reduce compliance costs for residential pool and spa owners, while ensuring that child safety remains a priority. It would introduce a number of changes, including a mandatory requirement that retailers and manufacturers inform buyers of their obligations under the Act. It would also make council inspection regimes consistent across the country.
Chair of the Local Government and Environment Committee, Scott Simpson MP says “this bill seeks to provide certainty for homeowners, securing their property rights and ensuring property boundaries are clearly determined.”
Submissions to the Local Government and Environment Committee are due by 15 January 2016. The committee will report back to Parliament in May next year.
