EECA Board appointments
Energy and Resources Minister Simon Bridges has reappointed Tom Campbell as Chair of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA), reappointed Elena Trout, and appointed Hon Phil Heatley as Members of the Authority. All three appointments are for three years, effective from 1 February 2016.
EECA’s role is to encourage, promote, and support energy efficiency, energy conservation and the use of renewable energy resources in New Zealand.
Mr Bridges says the reappointments of Tom Campbell and Elena Trout retain valuable governance experience and sector knowledge.
“Tom Campbell’s reappointment as Chair reflects his extensive leadership and governance experience,” says Mr Bridges.
“Phil Heatley – former Minister of Energy and Resources – will bring additional valuable energy sector expertise to the board, as well as his extensive experience working with central and local government agencies.”
EECA’s board is required to have a balanced mix of knowledge and experience in matters relevant to EECA’s functions and responsibilities. Members are required to have experience in or knowledge of the energy sector and the environment; community organisations; commerce; marketing and communications; governance and public sector management; and science and technology.
There are four additional members of the Authority: Marion Cowden (Deputy Chair), Janet Carson, David Coull, and Mervyn English.
Background information on appointees:
Tom Campbell (Chair)
Tom Campbell is an independent company director, and a former managing director of Comalco and general manager of the Tiwai aluminium smelter. He has an in-depth understanding of the role of energy efficiency in the economy and the challenges and issues faced. He has a clear understanding of the leadership and strategic direction role of a chair and the special elements of Crown entities.
Elena Trout (Board Member)
Elena Trout is a professional civil engineer and has extensive management, consultancy, and directorship experience in the energy, infrastructure, and transport sectors. Her professional career includes leading the development and management of significant engineering and technical projects. She is also a current member of the Electricity Authority Board.
Hon Phil Heatley (Board Member)
Hon Phil Heatley served as Minister of Energy and Resources from December 2011 to January 2013, with oversight of EECA and the Electricity Authority. Hon Heatley’s experience as MP for Whangarei, working with local and central government agencies, complements his experience in agribusiness and engineering.
