Tolley Talk - October 8 2015

Hon Anne Tolley, MP for East Coast
Earlier this month I was excited to be at Ohope Beach School with Associate Education Minister Nikki Kaye for the announcement of a $13.5 million redevelopment for the school.
The school’s redevelopment will include a new two-storey block encompassing 12 teaching spaces, along with a new administration block, a library, car-parking, and drop-off areas.
The redevelopment will also be built outside and above flood-prone areas to mitigate the risk of flooding from a nearby stream, which has been an issue for the school in the past.
This redevelopment is great news for the community and I’m thrilled with the new learning environment the school will offer. The Board of Trustees and the local community have fought hard over the years to get these plans into place, they deserve great recognition. Construction is expected to start by mid-2016.
All Blacks in Town
The Rugby World Cup has officially kicked off and I was lucky enough to wish Sam Cane, Liam Messam, and Tawera Kerr-Barlow all the best as they headed off to defend the cup.
The boys were in Whakatane as part of the All Blacks to the Nation campaign, which also saw Dan Carter, Charlie Faumuina, and TJ Perenara visit Gisborne.
It was great to be able to give the boys a send-off as they headed off to defend the Rugby World Cup. Good luck from the East Coast electorate!
One year on from the election
It’s one year since National won the 2014 election and went on to form another strong, stable Government that delivers to families and households.
Our achievements in the past year include free doctor’s visits and prescriptions for under-13s, extending paid-parental leave, and the first increase in benefit rates for families in more than 40 years.
We also continue to responsibly manage the Government’s finances. We’ve reduced the government’s deficit from $2.9 billion last year to near balance – turning around the $18.4 billion deficit of four years ago.
This is only year one and we have much more to do. I’m proud to be part of a Government led by a strong and reliable Prime Minister, who keeps his word and delivers practical policies. These policies benefit families while strengthening the engine-room of the economy for a better future for us all.
