New Zealand First Congratulates Dr Joe Williams
New Zealand First would like to congratulate Dr Joe Williams on his announcement as the inaugural patron of the Pasifika Medical Association (PMA).
“Dr Williams, a Cook Islander from Aitutaki, has over 50 years’ experience as a general practitioner, medical researcher, mentor and health advocate,” says New Zealand First Pacific Island Affairs Spokesperson Pita Paraone.
“He is a great role model, showing that there is opportunity for everyone, so even a boy from a small island can rise to great heights.
“Currently leading the Mt Wellington Integrated Family Health Centre, Dr Williams has championed the health and wellbeing of Pacific people throughout his career including during his time as Prime Minister of the Cook Islands.
“Dr Williams is thoroughly deserving of this recognition and in partnership with the PMA will no doubt continue to advocate for Pasifika health needs throughout the region,” says Mr Paraone.
