Key’s lack of compassion appalling
The Green Party is appalled by the lack of compassion John Key is showing by refusing to increase the refugee quota immediately.
“How many tragedies will it take for our Prime Minister to get a heart and increase our refugee quota?” said Green Party Co-leader Metiria Turei.
“It is heart-breaking seeing mothers and fathers devastated by terrible tragedies, day after day, when a prosperous country like New Zealand can do so much more to help.
“A simple stroke of the pen can immediately open the door to saving more lives, but our Prime Minister is being spineless, heartless and gutless.
“It is clear John Key will not be moved by the plight of innocent people, so it is up to Parliament to act on this issue.
“All the other political parties want to increase the refugee quota, except National.
“John Key is out of step with what New Zealanders, and every other political party, want; which is to allow more people to find a safe home in New Zealand.
“John Key can find over $60 million to go to war at the drop of a hat, yet apparently there is no money and space in New Zealand to save the innocent victims of war. That just does not wash.
“New Zealanders are known for their compassion, even if John Key is not, and they want us to increase the quota and do so now,” said Ms Turei.
