Another big win for Co-Ed Coffee Educators
Chris Bishop, National List MP based in the Hutt Valley, has congratulated Co-Ed Coffee Educators on winning the Diversability Award at the 2015 Diversity Awards NZ in Auckland last night.
“It’s fantastic to see Co-Ed getting this kind of recognition,” Mr Bishop said. “I visit Co-Ed often as it’s next door to my Hutt office and they cater all my events, so I see first-hand the great work they’re doing with the deaf community.”
Co-Ed Coffee Educators currently employs seven staff including three who are profoundly deaf. All hearing staff are learning NZSL.
The Minister for Disability Issues, Hon Nicky Wagner, visited Co-Ed Coffee Educators with Mr Bishop on Monday this week to congratulate owner Claire Matheson and her team on another recent award.
“Co-Ed recently won the NZSL Employer Award at this year’s New Zealand Sign Language In Action awards. During Minister Wagner’s visit to Co-Ed she taught me to order my coffee in NZSL, and it’s a skill I’m keen to develop further,” says Mr Bishop.
