Health And Safety Reforms – a Pandora’s Box for New Zealanders
New Zealand needs health and safety regulations that incorporate common sense, says New Zealand First.
“The Health and Safety Reform Bill has been reported back from select committee along with a plethora of changes,” says New Zealand First Labour and Industrial Relations Spokesperson Clayton Mitchell.
“We warned from the start that a copy and paste of Australian legislation would never work here.
“This legislation will create many unintended consequences for New Zealanders and New Zealand First has been fighting to address this problem.
“Treating farms as worksites and making spouses working on them liable for prosecution in the event of a fatal accident, shows we still have the mix wrong.
“New Zealand First is warning of a Pandora’s Box of unintended consequences from this legislation and will continue to fight to get the balance right,” says Mr Mitchell.
