Increase R&D spending good news for Palmerston North

List MP based in Palmerston North Jono Naylor is encouraged by the latest figures which show that New Zealand continues to invest more in research and development.

Statistics New Zealand Data released on Friday 27 March show that business expenditure on research and development has increased by $53 million since the last survey in 2012, reaching $1,246 million in 2014.

“Strong spending on research and development is good news for Palmerston North” say Naylor.

“With our strong science economy in Palmerston North, especially in Food Technology and Education, seeing businesses increase their expenditure will increase activity in Palmerston North” said Naylor.

“With Palmerston North playing its part in strengthening businesses R&D performance, we will see more Kiwi companies competing and succeeding internationally” says Naylor. “In addition to increased competitiveness, we have seen a nationwide increase in the full time equivalent staff in the research and development area. The total number of researchers in New Zealand is now 37,300.”
