Inquiry into Parliament’s legislative response to future national emergencies - deadline for submissions extended

The Regulations Review Committee has extended the date for interested parties to lodge submis-sions to the Inquiry into Parliament’s Legislative Response to Future National Emergencies, from 1 March 2015 to 1 June 2015.

The Inquiry considers recent legislative responses to major national emergencies.

It focuses on:

• Legislation and delegated legislation enabling major emergency response

• How emergency legislation was designed and utilised following the Canterbury earthquakes

• How legislation for other major national disasters (including floods, epidemics and warfare) em-power emergency responses

• How emergency powers should be transitioned to a state of normality and ultimately lifted

The Inquiry’s terms of reference were announced on 17 December 2014 and are available at http://www.parliament.nz/resource/en-nz/00DBSCH_INQ_56953_1/225f1f500edf057f7c3fc7ba274cdad974ccfe7a
