Represent New Zealand at Commonwealth Day 2015!
The
New Zealand Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary
Association (CPA) is seeking expressions of interest from
young New Zealanders who are interested in representing New
Zealand at Commonwealth Day in London on Monday 9 March
2015. The theme for 2015 is 'A Young Commonwealth'.
"This year's theme celebrates the capacity, contribution and potential of young people. Commonwealth Day provides a unique opportunity for young people across the Commonwealth to meet and give their fresh and innovative perspectives on global issues", said Jacqui Dean MP, Chairperson of the New Zealand CPA Branch.
New Zealand has been invited to nominate two young people to attend this event. Applicants need to be aged between 18 to 25 years, have strong leadership skills, an interest in the Commonwealth and parliamentary affairs, and be already in or around London on Commonwealth Day.
The one-day programme will include:
*
discussions on the Commonwealth and specifically on the
Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and our contribution
to parliamentary democracy;
* short debates or
other presentations on current critical issues in the
Commonwealth;
* attendance at the Observance at
Westminster Abbey, with Her Majesty The Queen as Head of the
Commonwealth present and all Commonwealth High Commissioners
in London; and
* possible attendance at the
Commonwealth Secretary-General's reception in the presence
of Her Majesty.
Applicants should send their name, age, occupation, and a short explanation of why they would like to represent New Zealand on Commonwealth Day to the New Zealand Branch of the CPA at cpa@parliament.govt.nz by Monday 12 January 2015.
Accommodation for participants who live outside London for the night of Sunday 8 March 2015 will be arranged and there is limited funding to support travel to London from other parts of the United Kingdom.
