John Key Supporting Labour
MANA Movement Leader and Tai Tokerau MP Hone Harawira
“There is something really sick about a National Party Prime Minister coming out in support of a Labour candidate” said MANA leader and Tai Tokerau MP, Hone Harawira, after hearing that John Key is urging voters to back Labour in the Tai Tokerau election.
“He backed the Labour candidate in 2011 and that was complete flop too”, said Harawira. “Maori don’t like being told who they have to vote for.”
“And the really stink thing about it all is the insult to his Maori Party coalition partners.”
“For six long and torturous years, the Maori Party has stood by National. They backed their budget cuts in education, health, housing and welfare. They looked the other way when National sold off the nation’s assets. And they lost support every step of the way. But they stayed loyal to National.”
“And how does John Key repay that support - by telling people to vote Labour!”
Harawira said that John Key’s rejection of his coalition partner will not be forgotten by Tai Tokerau voters. “It’s not just an insult to the Maori Party it’s an insult to Maori voters.”
“Tai Tokerau Maori won’t be taken in by a man who stabs his mates in the back … twice!”
“And I expect them to reject John Key’s nominee, in favour of somebody they know, somebody they trust, and somebody they can count on to stand up for what they want.”
