Maori Party – Don’t Complain … Walk
MANA Movement Leader and Tai Tokerau MP Hone Harawira
Tuesday 16 September 2014
"If the Maori Party are serious about stopping government spying on NZ citizens then they should tell the Prime Minister
to either stop doing it or they will walk away” said MANA leader and Tai Tokerau MP Hone Harawira, on hearing the Maori
Party express concerns about the GCSB and the rights of New Zealand citizens to be free from state surveillance.
“There’s no point preaching about it and saying how upset they are” ,said Harawira “Spying on New Zealand citizens is
not only wrong, it’s illegal."
“It was wrong and it was illegal when they did it to Tuhoe, it was wrong and illegal when they did it to Kim Dotcom, it
was wrong and illegal when they did it to the other 88 New Zealanders, and if they’re still doing it, then it’s still
wrong and it’s still illegal.”
“There’s nothing ‘mana-enhancing’ about being spied on and lied to.”
“This is the best chance the Maori Party will get to actually get the government to do the right thing, so I’m calling
on them to stop complaining, and either lay down their demands or walk.”
"Anything less will simply be another compromise in the history of the National Party / Maori Party government, another
compromise where Maori will lose.”
