Winegums Make for Better Polling

Winegums Make for Better Polling

MANA leader and Tai Tokerau MP, Hone Harawira

Tuesday 16 September 2014

“I wanted to laugh when I saw the Native Affairs poll the other night (Hone Harawira 38%, Kelvin Davis 37%) because it was almost the same as the one they did back in 2011”, said MANA leader and Tai Tokerau MP, Hone Harawira. “Back then they had me at 41% and Kelvin at 40%, but on election night the result wasn’t even close - I won it 49 to 40", said Harawira.

“The problem with their polling is they’re calling people on landlines and my key voters, the young and the poor, don’t have landlines, so the people who vote for me don’t actually get asked.”

“It’s nice to know that even amongst more conservative voters I still hold the lead, but it’s disappointing to see Native Affairs still using flawed processes and presenting their results as fact.”

“I know how the electorate feels because we’re out there every day” said Harawira “We packed out local halls all over the north on our Road Trip, 70% of those who came were Maori voters, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.”

“And my crews have canvassed nearly 90% of the electorate, from the far north, right across the mid north, the Whangarei area, the North Shore and all over West Auckland and the information we’re getting back is that the contest is not even close.”

“And one other thing - the other problem with Native Affairs poll was they did it 2 months ago!”

“The best poll was the highly-scientific, very detailed and entirely unbiased one carried out on the streets of Kaitaia just last week - where Clinton got 2, Te Hira got 7, Kelvin got 33 and I got 67 - winegums!”
