Horan unapologetic
Independent MP Brendan Horan is unapologetic for raising serious concerns about the use of parliamentary resources by
the New Zealand First Leader's Office earlier this year.
The Leader of NZ First is complaining about his staff being put through 'unnecessary scrutiny' and 'abuse' of
parliamentary process.
"That's a bit rich coming from a party leader who sacked two staff members on hearsay, denied one of his own MPs due
process, and hid behind parliamentary privilege to smear that MP.
"I stand by my decision to bring this matter to the Speaker's attention. While I accept the Speaker's findings, there
are anomalies that are remain unexplained," said Brendan Horan.
In particular, Mr Horan is drawing attention to a party strategy document which makes reference to the proposed
inclusion of the taxpayer-funded 'Vanguard' computer system in the party's candidates’ college. One only needs to read
the leaked NZ First Board minutes to see the intent.
Finally, Mr Horan is calling on New Zealand First to explain the recent sudden departure of its Director of Operations,
Api Dawson, from the party's Parliamentary office.
Brendan Horan asks if Mr Dawson will now be free to continue to work on the Vanguard software for party political
purposes, and be paid as a consultant from the Leader’s Office budget while no longer being subject to the Code of
Conduct for Parliamentary Service staff?
