Commerce

The committee on 19 June to consider the Energy (Fuels, Levies and References) Amendment Bill, and consider the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Communication, Vote Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Vote Economic Development and Employment, Vote Energy, and Vote Tourism.

The committee will next meet on 26 June to receive a briefing from the Marshal of the Polish Senate, consider the Energy (Fuels, Levies and References) Amendment Bill, and hear evidence on Petition 2011/76 of Ben Dowdle (on behalf of Unmask Palm Oil).

Education and Science

The committee met on 4 June to hear evidence on Vote Science and Innovation and Vote Tertiary Education with Hon Steven Joyce appearing, and on Vote Education and Vote Education Review Office with Hon Hekia Parata appearing.

The committee will next meet on 18 June.

Finance and Expenditure

The committee met on 18 June to further consider the Supplementary Estimates of Appropriations for the year ending 30 June 2014, the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Audit and for Vote Revenue, the New Zealand Superannuation and Retirement Income Amendment Bill, and the Petition 2011/78 of Deidre Kent and 877 others.

The committee also heard evidence on the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Canterbury Earthquake Recovery and the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Finance, along with Budget Economic and Fiscal Update 2014, Fiscal Strategy Report, and Investment Statement: Managing the Crown's Balance Sheet, 26 March 2014.

The committee will next meet on 25 June when it will further consider the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s Monetary Policy Statement, June 2014, the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Canterbury Earthquake Recovery, and the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Finance, along with Budget Economic and Fiscal Update 2014, Fiscal Strategy Report, and Investment Statement: Managing the Crown's Balance Sheet, 26 March 2014.

Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade

The committee met on 17 June to hear evidence on the 2014/15 Estimates for Votes Defence and Defence Force. The committee also met on 19 June to consider all of its 2014/15 Estimates Votes.

Government Administration

The committee met on 18 June and heard evidence on the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote State Services and also completed consideration of a number of other Votes. The committee also considered the Statutes Amendment Bill (No 4) and the Proposed National Civil Defence Emergency Management Plan.

The committee is not meeting next week.

Health

The committee me on 18 June 2014, when it heard evidence on the Briefing on Prostate Cancer. The committee also continued its consideration of the Smoke-free Environments (Tobacco Plain Packaging) Amendment Bill.

The committee will next meet on 25 June to hear evidence on the Report of the Controller and Auditor-General, Regional services planning in the health sector, and the petition of Anne Chapman on mental health treatment.

Justice and Electoral

This week the committee considered its inquiry into the 2013 Local Authority Elections, and the 2014/15 Estimates for Votes Attorney General, Parliamentary Counsel, Courts and Justice. It also considered petition 2011/66 of Elizabeth Subritzsky.

Next week it will continue its consideration of the 2013 Local Authority Elections, and the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Justice.

Law and Order

The committee met on 18 June 2014 to consider the Votes Police, Correction and Serious Fraud as part of the 2014/15 Estimates.

The committee will next meet on 25 June 2014.

Local Government and Environment

The committee met on 18 June to consider the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Conservation, the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Environment, the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, and the Kaikoura (Te Tai-o-Marokura) Marine Management Bill. It also heard evidence on the Environmental Reporting Bill.

The committee met in Auckland on 19 June to hear submissions on the Building (Earthquake-prone Buildings) Amendment Bill, and on the Environmental Reporting Bill.

The committee will next meet on 25 June to further consider the Kaikoura (Te Tai-o-Marokura) Marine Management Bill. It will also meet in Dunedin and Christchurch on 26 June to hear evidence on the Building (Earthquake-prone Buildings) Amendment Bill.

Māori Affairs

The committee met this week to consider the Waitangi National Trust Board Amendment Bill, and to consider the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Māori Affairs and Vote Treaty Negotiations.

Primary Production

The committee met on 19 June when it conducted hearings into the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Primary Industries. The Committee also deliberated on the Animal Welfare Amendment Bill, the 204/15 Estimates for Vote Land and Vote Food Safety and its briefing into new health import standards for pork. The Committee considered the petitions of David Ian Simpson, Alison White and its briefing on the regulation of the whitebait fishery on the West Coast.

The committee will next meet on 26 June when it will receive briefings on the future of Maori Agribusiness, and the policy, project management and programmes of forestry grants offered by the Ministry for Primary Industries. It will also consider the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Primary Industries, its briefing on fertiliser standards and a briefing on the report from the Controller and Auditor General, Ministry for Primary Industries: Preparing for and responding to biosecurity incursions.

Privileges

The committee met on 18 June 2014 to consider the Parliamentary Privilege Bill, and other items of business before it.

Regulations Review

The committee met on 19 June 2014 to consider its Inquiry into oversight of disallowable instruments that are not legislative instruments. The committee continued its scrutiny of various legislative instruments and disallowable instruments that are not legislative instruments.

On 19 June the committee reported to the House on the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote Social Development, for Vote Housing, and for Vote Senior Citizens. On 20 June the committee reported to the House on the Social Security (Clothing Allowances for Orphans and Unsupported Children) Amendment Bill. Transport and Industrial Relations

The committee met on 17 June to consider the Land Transport Amendment Bill. It also met on 19 June to consider the 2014/15 Estimates for Vote ACC, Vote Transport, Vote Immigration and Vote Labour; and to hear evidence on the Health and Safety Reform Bill.
