Cake for Cronies, Kiwis Get Crumbs
Budget 2014 completely ignores the elephants in the room – immigration, housing, jobs and exports, says New Zealand
First Leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters.
The problems are:
• Renewed pressure on housing through exploding immigration.
• Failure to maintain payments into the New Zealand Superannuation Fund (and there won‘t be under this Government for
another five more years).
• Nothing to stop soaring power prices.
• Nothing to stop the seriously over-inflated dollar.
• Not a single idea for generating one new job .
• No transport plan.
• No infrastructure plan for the whole country, only Auckland gets a mention and then not the rail loop.
“We welcome extra spending on the families’ package - $500 million over four years, but additional spending will be
mopped up by all the new arrivals - migrants from overseas and Kiwis returning from Australia.
“As for extending doctor’s visits for children under 13, well, they have been reading New Zealand First policy, and
followed in our footsteps. We got free doctor’s visits for under sixes and that’s good.
“All and all it is a complacent Budget which leaves out the mass majority of New Zealanders hopes for a better tomorrow.
“The cronies got the cake in this Budget. Kiwis got the crumbs.
“And nothing is done about the huge pressures from foreign speculation on the purchase of homes and land in New
Zealand,” says Mr Peters.
