Budget 2014 - Managing a growing economy

Today Bill English will deliver National's sixth Budget.

Over the past five Budgets, National has steered New Zealand through natural disasters, Labour's domestic recession, and the effects of the global financial crisis. And we've done that while responsibly managing the Government's finances.

We're in an enviable position compared with many other countries. New Zealand is on track to surplus, our economy is growing, New Zealanders are enjoying the better public services they deserve, and we're making real progress on the Christchurch rebuild.

Now we face a new challenge, to turn the gains of the past five years into long-term prosperity for New Zealand families.

Budget 2014 will be about managing a growing economy.

Though we are still in a tight fiscal position, National is prepared to invest more money in priority areas where we can make a real difference. But we need to do that without making the mistakes of the previous Government, when spending got out of control, interest rates went sky-high, and New Zealand went into domestic recession as a result.

From 2.00pm, you will be able to keep up with all Budget 2014 announcements here.

Bill English will also email you with some of this year's Budget highlights.
