Dunne Secures Win for Recreational Hunters
UnitedFuture Leader and Associate Minister for Conservation Hon. Peter Dunne welcomed the announcement of the inaugural appointments to the Game Animal Council.
“The Game Animal Council is a direct result of the UnitedFuture Confidence and Supply agreement with National and after so many years of work I am very happy to announce this with the Conservation Minister, Hon. Dr Nick Smith.”
“The establishment of the Game Animal Council and the appointment of its members today is an important step forward for the hunting sector in New Zealand.”
“The Council will bring a new system of self-management to the sector and acknowledges the important role that hunting plays both recreationally and economically in New Zealand” Mr Dunne said.
The new Council will develop an industry led code of practice for aerial assisted trophy hunting.
“This will ensure that game animals aren’t being unduly harmed and that the fundamentally fair way that we like to hunt in New Zealand is maintained” said Mr Dunne.
The Council will also advise and make recommendations to the Minister of Conservation on hunting issues, provide information and education to the sector, promote safety initiatives, conduct game animal research, and undertake management functions for designated herds of special interest.
“Today’s announcement of the Game Animal Council shows that smaller parties can accomplish a great deal and that New Zealanders have a real choice when voting. UnitedFuture has shown this time and again over the last decade and this is just the latest example of what can be achieved.”
“The New Zealand outdoors has so much to offer and I am so pleased that UnitedFuture has guaranteed a sustainable solution for hunting in New Zealand for generations to come.”
