Making the holidays easier for Kiwi drivers

Making the holidays easier for Kiwi drivers

The next Labour Government will make the holidays easier and journeys quicker for Kiwi families driving on the roads, says Labour Leader David Cunliffe.

“There’s nothing Kiwis like more than getting on the road and going on holiday. But on public holidays like Easter and Anzac Weekend fun can quickly turn to frustration when the family realises the rego for the caravan has expired or there’s a big truck hogging the fast lane.

“Sweating the small stuff leads to too many Kiwi holidays getting off to a bad start.

“Labour’s transport policy will include specific aspects to make driving easier on the holidays.

We will drop registrations for light trailers and caravans.
Cut the increase in road user charges that the National Government brought in for motorhomes and campervans.
Require heavy trucks to stay out of the fast lane in three and four lane motorways. Trucks have a speed limit of 90km/h, 10km/h below cars.

“Holidays are meant to be a fun time for families, but too often the hassle of getting organised and travelling causes frustration that starts the trip off badly.

“Kiwis are sweating the small stuff too much. As Prime Minister I will try to make life a bit easier for them, starting with the holidays,” says David Cunliffe.
