UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne describes Labour’s Best Start policy as a “curate’s egg” – good in some parts, but not others.

“UnitedFuture supports the extension of Paid Parental Leave to 26 weeks (our own policy is to extend it to 12 months), as well as the provision of free antenatal services, which is a positive step towards ensuring children get the best start in life.

“However, the cash for kids baby bonus is just a crass bribe.

“Using the funding committed to this policy could have been better used to cut tax rates, or to fund the further extension of Paid Parental Leave,” he says.
