John Banks Resigns As Minister

John Banks Resigns As Minister
Press Release by ACT Leader John Banks
Wednesday, 16 October 2013

ACT Leader John Banks today confirmed that he has stood down from his Ministerial positions following today’s decision at the Auckland District Court.

“Last week I indicated to the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff that I would offer my resignation should the matter relating to my 2010 Mayoral Electoral return be committed to trial,” Mr Banks said.

“I have spoken to the Prime Minister this afternoon and he has accepted my resignation.

“I believe the decision in the Auckland District Court was wrong and I will be contesting the charge. However I do not want this to be a distraction from the Government’s programme.

“I intend to continue in my role as ACT Leader and MP for Epsom, and ACT will continue to support National on matters of confidence and supply.

“My focus will now be on clearing my name and serving the people of Epsom,” Mr Banks said.
