Maungakiekie MP welcomes commitment to new high tech studio in Penrose
Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, MP for Maungakiekie, has welcomed the announcement today by the Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector, Hon Jo Goodhew, that a new High Tech Youth Network studio will be established in Penrose.
The High Tech Youth Network Trust provides free after-school learning environments where young people work with adult volunteer mentors to explore their own ideas, up-skill themselves and build confidence in their own potential through the use of technology.
“This is great news for our local community. With a large number of schools and community groups in the area, I have no doubt the studio will be a great success.” Mr Lotu-Iiga says.
Young people who attend the studios learn project management and technical skills such as computer game design, electronic publishing, Photoshop, animation, and 3D graphic design.
“In order to prepare our young people for work in the 21st century we need to give them every advantage we can to up-skill and unleash their potential. This is a great example of community groups, Government and the private sector all working together towards raising the achievement and success of our young learners.” Mr Lotu-Iiga says.
