Green Party Welcome Afghan Interpreters To New Zealand

The welcoming today of Afghan interpreters who worked with New Zealand troops, demonstrates our gratitude for their work, the Green Party said today.

“These people put their lives, and the lives of their families, at real risk to support our troops in Afghanistan,” Green Party global affairs spokesperson Kennedy Graham said.

“The Green Party has been calling for these families to be welcomed to New Zealand, so we are pleased to see them arrive today.

“New Zealand soldiers would not have been able to do their work without the support of these local people.

“The consequences for these people of providing that support could have been dire had they remained in Afghanistan. We are able to provide them with a safe home and it is absolutely right that we have done so.

“New Zealand now has a responsibility to these families which must be met by continuing to support them in their new lives here.”
