Social Security Amendment Bill
“MANA opposed it all the way” said MANA Leader and MP for Te Tai Tokerau Hone Harawira, regarding the Social Security Amendment Bill.
“The whole point of the new law is to make it so difficult for people on benefits that they’ll be pushed off – or they won’t be able to get on one in the first place. And with no jobs to go to it’ll mean more and more people slipping through the cracks”.
“While the government trumpets this as a win and a saving to the taxpayer, the reality is there’ll be huge downstream costs for the people and families involved and ultimately for us all. Saving a buck here to then spend mega bucks later on dealing with things like homelessness and ill health is more than pointless. It shows a lack of thought and care that is simply disgusting. It’s all about bashing beneficiaries to build the government’s votes”.
