Govt makes new appointments to TEC board
Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister Steven Joyce today announced the appointments of Nigel Gould and Christopher Mace to the Tertiary Education Commission board.

Mr Gould, of Wellington, has 30 years’ governance experience in the public and private sector. Mr Mace, of Auckland, is the Chair of NIWA and has been a director of more than 50 companies.

“Mr Gould and Mr Mace bring a broad range of skills and governance experience from both the business world and the public sector that will be beneficial to the Tertiary Education Commission board,” Mr Joyce says.

Mr Joyce expressed his thanks to departing board members Jim Donovan and Ian Boyd.

“TEC has benefited significantly from Jim and Ian’s experience and expertise, and I thank them for their contribution.”

Biographies

Nigel Gould
Nigel Gould held positions as chairman of Port Wellington Ltd, now CentrePort, chairman of the Wellington Regional Transitional Committee, pro-chancellor and chancellor of Massey University, and chairman of the Universities Chancellors Committee. He is a director for the Massey University Foundation Board.

Mr Gould is a Justice of the Peace and a fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Institute of Directors and the New Zealand Institute of Management. He is chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority, director of a number of private companies and has recently been appointed chair of the Young Enterprise Trust.

Christopher Mace
Christopher Mace (Ngāti Porou, Te-Whānau-ā-Apānui) is the Chair of NIWA and chaired the Crown Research Institute, ESR in the 1990s and later Antarctica New Zealand. He was a founding trustee of the Sir Peter Blake Trust and continues as a trustee of Antarctic Heritage Trust. Mr Mace was awarded a CNZM for services to Antarctica and the community.

Mr Mace won the Aotearoa New Zealand Māori Business Leaders premier award in 2011. He was the first in the event’s history to be specifically honoured for visual arts and scientific endeavour. He is involved with the Auckland Art Gallery, the Auckland Theatre Company, the Auckland Writers and Readers Festival, the Arts Foundation and is a patron of the SCAPE Christchurch Biennial.
