Commerce Commission appointment
Elisabeth Welson has been appointed to the Commerce Commission as an associate member, Commerce Minister Craig Foss announced today.
Ms Welson’s appointment is another step towards further strengthening the Commission’s membership and overall capability,” says Mr Foss.
Ms Welson’s term begins on 20 September 2013 for a period of four and a half years.
“I would also like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution that outgoing member Gowan Pickering has made to the Commission,” says Mr Foss.
Background:
Ms Welson was most recently a senior commercial Partner at a large commercial law firm. She co-led the firm’s competition and regulatory group and also headed up the energy, natural resources and utilities market group. She has 30 years of legal experience that includes significant experience in competition, consumer and regulatory law. Ms Welson holds an LLB (Hons) from the University of Auckland and has practiced as a Barrister and Solicitor in New Zealand as well as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
