New Zealand Water Rights a Total Mess – Peters
New Zealand First says Prime Minister John Key’s foolish actions have led the country into chaos over water rights.
Rt Hon Winston Peters says Mr Key made the ownership of water an issue because of the Government’s asset sales programme.
“Once Mr Key had made secret deals with the Maori Party and set this circus in motion, there was no doubt what the Waitangi Tribunal’s recommendations would be.
“Could he not see that a tribunal’s findings are no way to formulate public policy? In this case that would be the role of the court system.”
Mr Peters says asset sales should be halted but that would not stop the charade around water rights.
“This whole mess tells you volumes about John Key’s incompetence over the Government’s ill-conceived flagship policy which was never a solid idea,” says Mr Peters.
