Rail Passenger Safety Put At Risk By Indecisive Government
New Zealand First has today uncovered two more unsafe rail crossings which makes a mockery of Government assurances that the main trunk line is safe.
Transport spokesperson Brendan Horan has uncovered two seriously dodgy rail crossings near Huntly and Hamilton.
“They are both ticking time bombs that could well cause a catastrophic derailment of a passenger train.
“The state of disrepair at both crossings is at least as bad as the crossing highlighted yesterday in the media.”
Mr Horan says the flawed KiwiRail Turnaround Plan shows the Government is grasping at straws when it comes to managing our national railway.
“An urgent inquiry into the safety of the main trunk line must be undertaken now to stem the likelihood of a major accident causing the loss of innocent lives.”
