Kiwis Deserve Better Economic Leadership
New Zealand needs leadership that delivers more jobs and higher incomes not zero budgets and zero growth, says Labour Leader David Shearer.
“National has failed New Zealanders. It has failed to provide the economic leadership needed to take our country forward. It has left a trail littered with broken promises.
“A zero budget is nothing to boast about. It’s an admission of failure,” said David Shearer.
“It’s time for new and strong economic leadership. It’s time to make the right decisions, take the hard choices, try new ideas and get our country growing.
“It’s about setting a new measure of success. Yes it’s about get the books back in the black. Labour will do that by 2014-15 just like National. But we’ll also be focused on growing our economy so it benefits all New Zealanders.
Labour will:
·         Create jobs by supporting exporters.
·         Help Kiwis get the education and skills they need to seize the job opportunities of a 21st century economy.
·         Grow incomes by investing in science and innovation to create more high-wage businesses.
·         Make it easier for Kiwis to save for their first home and build a retirement nest egg.
“New Zealanders are working harder than ever. They’re taking on extra jobs and working longer hours. They’re doing the right thing and raising their kids the best they can.
“All they want is a fair deal. They expect the government to play its part in giving families and communities the best start and the opportunities they deserve.  New Zealanders are not getting that from John Key’s government.
“What they’ve got is the worst growth of any New Zealand government in 50 years. They’ve got more than 50,000 Kiwis fleeing across the ditch, 50,000 more people on benefits and 50,000 more New Zealanders out of work. That’s the legacy of John Key’s government.
“I dream of something better for New Zealanders and I will deliver it,” said David Shearer.
