Harawira Runs for Tamaki Makaurau
Sister in Law to Tai Tokerau MP Hone Harawira, Stephanie Harawira has this afternoon announced that she is running for selection to stand for MANA in the Tamaki Makaurau electorate.
“This is an urban maori seat and I represent urban Maori”
While the big names candidates may still come swinging into the race, Harawira is adamant that her campaign experience in 2005, 2008 and the 2011 Tai Tokerau By election gives her the strategic advantage as how the seat should be won.
Harawira who was born and raised in Tamaki is a well known community leader in Waitakere who has been the receiver of many awards with many accolades to her portfolio, including serving as a Justice of the Peace and being nominated for New Zealander of the Year two years in a row whilst also winning Unsung Local Hero in 2009.
“The men did not step up so let the woman come through” Is the common theme that Stephanie refers to.
The MANA Movement selection process takes place this Saturday 10th September, where financial members of the Mana Movement who reside in the electorate will be able to cast their vote as to who they would like to see represent them. After that a recommendation is made to the executive of the party where a final decision is made.
It is unknown at this stage who the other contenders are.
