ACT Candidate Undaunted By 17% Challenge
ACT Party Hunua candidate Ian Cummings has said he was very honoured to be selected in the top 20 on an extremely strong
ACT list, and that even though the Party would need 17 percent of the vote to get him into Parliament – he’s setting his
sights high.
“I won’t be quitting my day job just yet, but a bit of optimism never hurt anyone and Kiwis love a battler.
“For me it’s about helping people understand that this country desperately needs a strong ACT presence in Parliament to
keep National honest.
“I’ll be encouraging Hunua voters to give their electorate vote to National’s Dr Paul Hutchison, and give ACT their
party vote.
“This gives the thinking voters the best bang for their two votes,” Mr Cummings said.
If Dr Hutchinson won the Hunua electorate, Mr Cummings would need ACT to win 17 percent of the party vote.
“Sure it’s very ambitious, but I have high aspirations – for myself and for New Zealand – that’s why I’m a member of the
ACT Party.
“New Zealand should aspire to catch Australia and we should catch Australia.
“If ACT did win 17 percent, it would be absolutely fantastic for the country and catching Australia could be a reality.
“We’d be in a position to push hard for significant tax cuts that would generate plenty of job opportunities, a welfare
system that really works for a change, and an education system that puts parents in control. And that’s just for
starters.
“So people of the Hunua electorate can expect to see me out and about campaigning hard for ACT and reminding people that
it’s healthy to have aspirations,” Mr Cummings concluded.
