National burying its head in the sand on food prices
With Kiwis now paying nearly 16 per cent more for fruit and vegetables than this time last year it’s no wonder families are being forced to make tough decisions, Labour Deputy Leader Annette King says.
“For the sixth month in a row fruit and vegetable prices have increased making it even more difficult for Kiwi families to put healthy food on their tables,” Annette King said.
“However, while Kiwis struggle, National has been more worried about whether a group of teenagers are eating KFC than looking at the real issues facing families.
“Labour wants every Kiwi family to be able to afford healthy fruit and vegetables. That’s why we will take all GST off fresh fruit and vegetables and make the first $5000 of everyone’s incomes tax free.
“It’s obvious to everyone that wages are simply not keeping up with price rises.
“But still National is trying to con Kiwis into believing they are better off. People only need to look at supermarket receipts to see how silly those statements are,” Annette King said.
