New Lotteries appointments announced

New Lotteries appointments announced

Five new Lotteries appointments have been announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs, including one to the Lottery Grants Board and four to regional distribution committees.

Ailsa Smaill of the Gore area has been appointed to the Lottery Grants Board. Ms Smaill has a background in horse breeding and farming, and is a former member of a lottery national distribution committee.

Ranjna Patel QSM JP of Pakuranga has been appointed to the Lottery Auckland Community Distribution Committee. Ms Patel has wide experience in the health sector and received a Queens Service Medal in 2009 for services to the Indian community.

Trish Giddens of Waipukurau has been appointed to the Lottery Hawke’s Bay Community Distribution Committee. Ms Giddens is a former Mayor of the Hawke’s Bay District Council and is the Manager – Southern, Services to Older People, Waiapu Anglican Social Services Trust Board.

Sarah Dowie of Invercargill has been appointed to the Lottery Otago/Southland Community Distribution Committee. Ms Dowie is a senior solicitor and involved in Playcentre and local sport.

Liz Tanielu of Wellington has been appointed to the Lottery Wellington/Wairarapa Community Distribution Committee. Ms Tanielu is self-employed in the fields of public policy, project management, research and evaluation, with a focus on Pacific initiatives.

“All of these new appointments bring a range of valuable skills and experience to this important work,” says Mr Guy.

“I also want to thank all the outgoing members for their service to the community.”

All of the appointments are for three years.

The Lottery Grants Board allocates the profits of lotteries such as Lotto, Lotto Strike, Instant Kiwi and Keno to a range of national and regional distribution committees. The Board has allocated a total of $154 million for distribution during 2011/2012, with $26 million allocated to regional committees.
