A delegation from Israel, led
by the Speaker of the Israeli Knesset, Mr Reuven (Ruby)
Rivlin, will visit the New Zealand Parliament tomorrow, the
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr The Rt Hon
Lockwood Smith, has announced.
“The delegation’s visit provides us with the opportunity to increase links between Kiwi and Israeli parliamentarians as part of a renewed relationship with Israel across many areas, as well as reciprocating the hospitality that Speaker Rivlin extended to me and my delegation in Israel last October”, the Speaker said.
The group will call on the Governor-General, His Excellency the Rt Hon Sir Anand Satyanand, the Speaker, and will meet with fellow parliamentarians. Speaker Rivlin and Speaker Smith will also be unveiling a plaque at the new Israeli Embassy on Brandon Street, Wellington.
The delegation’s other activities in New Zealand include meeting with the Auckland and Wellington Jewish communities, calling on the Mayors of Rotorua and Christchurch, and visiting areas of interest in the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquake, which claimed three Israeli lives.
