Loss of Rugby World Cup games blow to Christchurch
The news that Rugby World Cup games will not be held in Christchurch later this year is a blow to the city, says Labour
Leader Phil Goff.
“It would have been fantastic if Christchurch could have hosted the games. It would have been great for morale and great
for the local economy.
“The decision that the games will have to be moved to other locations has been clear to everyone, including the
international media, who have been reporting that fact for days now.
“John Key has had engineering reports and information about the availability of accommodation for some time. Yet he has
refused to make that information public.
“The Prime Minister has handled this issue poorly. He’s ended up giving false expectations that have now been dashed.”
