Dunne thanks generous hundreds for accommodation appeal response
Ohariu MP Peter Dunne is saying a massive "thank you" to the hundreds of people who offered accommodation through his Ohariu electorate offices over the last 24 hours.
“Wellington Civil Defence, who are coordinating the accommodation appeal have advised us that for the time being they have suspended their hotline service and do not require any further offers,” Mr Dunne said.
“Since 9.30am yesterday my two electorate offices have received hundreds of offers, all of which have been passed on to Wellington Civil Defence and will be added to the national register.
“The response has been brilliant; it is incredible how generous New Zealanders are at a time like this," he said.
“While all the current focus is rightly on the next few days, it is highly likely that for many months ahead Christchurch residents will require accommodation outside the city due to the stress and trauma of this ordeal.
“If and when more accommodation is required, I will once again open my electorate offices to assist in collecting those offers,” Mr Dunne said.
