Westpac And The Tobacco Industry
Following Question Time and the General Debate, MPs began the first reading debate on the Westpac Bill.
The Private Bill is to ensure that the bank and its assets can be fully incorporated in New Zealand as is required by the Reserve Bank.
The bill was sent to the Finance and Expenditure Committee on a voice vote.
MPs then began a one hour debate on the inquiry into the tobacco industry.
This follows the recent release of a report on the inquiry by the Maori Affairs Committee which made a number of recommendations concerning tobacco and its effect on Maori.
