Electoral Reform Bill Sent To Select Committee
The Electoral Administration Amendment Bill No 2 was sent to the Justice and Electoral Committee on a voice vote.
The Bill amends the Electoral Act to implement the next stage of reform of electoral bodies, winding up the office of Chief Registrar of Electors and transferring its functions to the new Electoral Commission.
The Bill also allows elector's immigration status to be checked at the time of their enrolment application is processed, rather than after they are enrolled; and allows online enrolments.
