More questions emerge in Pansy Wong saga
There are fresh questions emerging about the blurring of the lines between the business affairs of Pansy Wong’s husband Sammy Wong and her taxpayer-funded role as an MP, says Pete Hodgson.
There are two companies registered at the same address as Pansy Wong’s publicly funded electorate office - 735 Chapel Road, Botany, Auckland
One is Sampan Enterprises. Sammy Wong is the only shareholder and director.
The company was earlier registered in Christchurch with two directors, Sammy Wong and Pansy Wong.
A second is Shipley & Wong. The directors are Burton Shipley and Sammy Wong. The shareholders are Jennifer Mary Shipley and Sammy Wong.
The Speaker’s Directions regarding the use of electorate offices is applied according to the four principles of accountability, appropriateness, openness, and transparency.
It would seem unlikely that the Speaker would consider those four principles could all be met in registering private companies at an electorate office.
Whether the companies hold a separate lease or share any services, or indeed are trading, is unknown.
Nor is it known whether the former Prime Minister Jenny Shipley is aware that one of her companies is registered at the address of Pansy Wong’s electorate office.
The relevant company office records and Speaker’s Directions are attached.
