Transport Minister Playing Games Over Auckland Rail
Labour’s Auckland Issues spokesperson Phil Twyford says Transport Minister Steven Joyce should stop playing political games over funding for Auckland’s transport system.
“Steven Joyce needs to come to terms with the fact that Aucklanders gave an overwhelming mandate to Mayor Len Brown and his campaign promise of action on Auckland rail, including the central city loop.”
The
Minister appeared on TV3’s The Nation talking down the
possibility of central government support for Auckland rail.
“This is a bit rich coming from the Minister who
scrapped the regional fuel tax that would have delivered
half a billion dollars for rail projects. He’s the same
Minister who is insisting on building his Puhoi-Wellsford
holiday highway which doesn’t stack up on the normal
cost-benefit analysis but will cost the taxpayer $1.6
billion.”
“Aucklanders need a Government that will work with Len Brown and the new Auckland Council to get things done. National looks like it is ready to pack up its toys and walk away because Aucklanders didn’t vote for its mayoral candidate,” said Phil Twyford.
