Parliamentary Practice in New Zealand now on Parliament website
The textbook about how Parliament works, Parliamentary Practice in New Zealand, by David McGee CNZM QC, is now accessible on the Parliament website. There has long been a demand for greater accessibility to the work among people with an interest in Parliament.
David McGee was Clerk of the House of Representatives from 1985 to 2007, and during his career at Parliament he prepared three editions of Parliamentary Practice in New Zealand. In publishing the work to the website, Mary Harris, Clerk of the House, would like to recognise David McGee’s expertise and the meticulous effort that the work represents, and thanks him for his willingness to make the book more accessible.
The third edition of Parliamentary Practice in New Zealand is made available on the Parliament website in the form in which it was published in 2005. Some procedures and practices have changed since that time. The Office of the Clerk is in the process of establishing a structure for bringing and keeping the work up to date. This will ensure its on-going status as the authoritative text about the Parliament of New Zealand.
