Great Kiwi road trips will create great Kiwi family memories
Labour's Tourism spokesperson Kelvin Davis is welcoming the $1 million Automobile Association Great Kiwi Road Trip domestic tourism campaign.
“Domestic tourism accounts for over half of tourism spending, but has been neglected in the drive to entice international visitors here,” Kelvin Davis said.
“The last domestic campaign that most Kiwis can actually remember is the ‘don't leave town 'til you've seen the country’ campaign from the 1970s.”
Kelvin Davis said New Zealand’s regions have much to offer Kiwis as well as international visitors.
“Domestic tourism is the bedrock of the New Zealand tourism scene,” Kelvin Davis said.
“When New Zealanders make the decision to holiday within New Zealand it means money circulates within the country instead of being left overseas, thus stimulating our local economy.
“I want to encourage Kiwis to bundle the kids in the car and head off on one of the twenty-three iconic Kiwi road trips AA has created,” Kelvin Davis said. “A Great Kiwi Road Trip is guaranteed to create great Kiwi family memories.
“Why holiday overseas, when we have everything we need for a great holiday here in New Zealand?”
