Katene says Govt’s rejection of GST bill is
sad
Maori Party MP Rahui Katene is
disappointed that the Government has chosen the integrity of
its tax system over its citizens.
The Goods and Services Tax (Exemption of Healthy Food) Amendment Bill was defeated in Parliament last night by 64-56 votes.
Mrs Katene said
the issue of rising costs of healthy food and public health
would not go away.
“My bill has planted a
seed and I’m not going to give in on this one. I’m
extremely disappointed that National, Act and United Future
chose to vote against it because they didn’t want the GST
system
changed.”
