Mt Albert a safe place to shop and do business
(Correcting mispelt name in previously issued press
release)
Mt Albert is a safe place to shop and do business despite the tragic death of an intruder when he broke into Grant Gillard’s pharmacy, MP for Mt Albert David Shearer says.
“I would hate to think that this incident has created the impression that Mt Albert is not safe. A traumatic event like this is very rare and could happen in any part of Auckland.
“In fact the trends in Mt Albert are positive and planned improvements to the local shopping centre will reinvigorate what is already an excellent place to live, work and do business.
“Some of the changes include a liquor ban for the area will come into effect in October.
“After discussions with police, there has been an increased presence, both on the beat and car patrols. Auckland City Council has recently released a Precinct Plan for the redevelopment of Mt Albert. Auckland Regional Transport Agency ARTA is planning a major to upgrade the railway station in the coming months with the intention of connecting it by bridge into the heart of the business district.
“And Ontrack has begun cleaning up the rail corridors which have been an eyesore from litter and rubbish.
“Mt Albert residents are passionate about their community and everybody wants a better, more welcoming shopping centre”, David Shearer said.
